Our Kids are Reading On-Line – Are you?

It’s no surprise that there are differences between us and the next generation when it comes to technology.  The kids of today are growing up reading on-line which will eventually dictate the future of books.

Everywhere you go, you see heads bowed down reading; emails, texts, ebooks and blackberry messanger, to name a few.  The new reading devices that are on the market are improving in quality and price as the competition increases.

We know that you can’t replace the feel and smell of a paper book, but the conveniences of eBooks are becoming a real force in today’s world.

Here are a few of the benefits of eBooks:

  • Eco-Friendly (paperless)
  • Convenient – you don’t have to leave your home to buy a good book (eBook),  any time of day or night
  • You can have hundreds of eBooks on one reading device
  • Cheaper than print copies

It’s definitely a time of change and that has its own challenges. You don’t have to rush out and buy an eBook Reading Device, you can simply visit an eBook Store and purchase/download an eBook to your computer or laptop and then copy it onto another device if you choose.  It’s easy and your kids will be impressed!

Happy eReading!

How to Prepare Your eBook for ePublishing

Many of you may be wondering if it’s difficult to ePublish.  Let me tell you first hand, it’s easy breezy lemon squeezy!

Here’s a checklist to help you out;

1. Ensure that your eBook has been proof-read/edited and converted to PDF,(the most common format for eBooks).

2. Secure the file Properties of your eBook; while in Acrobat, click File / Properties /Security. You can limit copying and printing if you choose. Also ensure that the Title, Author, Subject and Keywords are all filled in correctly (found in Properties / Description) and that the file name reflects the name of your eBook and includes your name. Be sure to click OK to save the changes.

3. Prepare an Author biography.

4. Have a photo of yourself ready in .jpg format. File size should generally not exceed 100 KB.

5. Prepare a brief summary of your eBook.

6. Prepare a sample of your eBook (1 to 5 Pages in PDF).

7. Compile testimonials, if you have any, in .pdf.

8. Prepare an eBook cover(usually in.jpg format).File size should not exceed 100KB.

If you follow the tips above, you’ll be ready to ePublish making the process quick and easy!

Lori’s eBook Review “Killing Mind” by Best Selling Author David Wickes

“Killing Mind” is another thrilling and suspenseful eNovel written by Best Selling Author, David Wickes.

The incredible news is that David is donating his proceeds from every sale of “Killing Mind” from eBookGuides4Life.com to the Heart & Stroke Foundation!

Great stuff David!

In his 340 page eNovel, “Killing Mind”, Doctor Sandra Outrum’s one year old son is abducted.  Her brother-in-law, Homicide Detective Jack Petersen, leads FBI and BCA agents on a thrilling chase after the kidnappers. Strange and unpredictable events continually baffle the police in this gripping fiction eBook.

A series of brutal murders complicate the investigation and twists and turns take the reader along a suspenseful ride to the stunning, surprise ending.

According to Stephen Baker, Publisher and Editor at The Halton Compass, “The reader sees the story unfold through the eyes of both the victims and the kidnappers, but what starts out as a fairly straightforward business arrangement, begins to go wrong in inexplicable ways.  As the kidnappers themselves become victims the tension mounts along with the gruesome body count.  This is a fast paced book that you just can’t put down.  I read the novel in one sitting and bet I won’t be alone.”

Author David Wickes has five published novels, Killing Time, Killing Cold, Killing Kind, Killing Mind and Killing Affair.  All five fast-paced thrillers feature protagonist, homicide detective Jack Petersen.  His work has been widely acclaimed with Killing Time and Killing Cold attaining best selling status in 2009.

Wickes, born in Montreal, served eight years as a pilot in the R.C.A.F., flying F-86 Sabre Jets in Europe during the Cold War.  He moved to the cosmetic industry, soon establishing his own company as an importer and national distributor.  He took an early retirement to begin his writing career in 2001.

The author lives in South-Western Ontario, along with his two German shepherds, Guinness and Diego.

You may find David at your local book store in the Greater Toronto Area and Rural Ontario as he hosts hundreds of book signings a year.  I am proud to say that I’ve met David and am thrilled that he’s chosen eBookGuides4Life.com to ePublish with!

David Pogue – New York Times Technology Expert Comments on eBooks

Hi!

David Pogue, a Technology Expert and Writer for the New York Times was on CBC Radio back in June talking about eBooks. He examined the intersection of culture and technology and writes about it on his Blog.  He assured listeners that traditional books will not disappear, “Things don’t replace things, they add to them”.

He stated that “On-screen reading is definitely increasing and will continue to do so and that the kids of today are already doing the majority of reading on screen. Many folks will still hang onto their hardcover and paperbacks, but the evolution of the new eBook reading devices are making the transition to eBooks easier by making it more like a book experience”.

David also talked about copyrighting eBooks and how some ePublishers may have gone over board. For example, the Kindle can only download eBooks from Amazon and are not transferable to other eBook reading devices.

What happens when the Kindle becomes outdated or if customers want to purchase another eBook reading device? They won’t have the flexibility to transfer their already purchased eBooks. The music industry attempted something like this and finally had to give in, as customers refused to accept the limitations.

Unlike eBookGuides4Life.com, where all of our eBooks are in PDF and are easily transferable to computers, Blackberries, iPhones, eBook reading devices and anything that can read a PDF.

Thanks David for your insight and hope you enjoyed your visit to Toronto!

In “Killing Kind”, readers are lead on a race against time in which Detective Jack Petersen must catch a serial killer. But this time it’s personal!

In this 349 page eBook thriller, deft characterizations, quick paced events, and chilling description match the wits of the Detective and assassin. When Detective Jack Petersen’s investigation hampers the killer, he takes it personally and targets Petersen’s wife.

The plot’s as twisted as the murderer’s mind.  Get ready for a wild roller coaster ride of a murder mystery with a nail biting ending.

Lori’s eBook Review “Juicing for Energy” by Nancy Desjardins

Here’s something to get juiced up about!

“Juicing for Energy”, an eBook by Nancy Desjardins will teach you how juicing cuts out the work and gives your body what it needs!

And just as exciting, the Author is donating proceeds from every sale of
“Juicing for Energy” from eBookGuides4Life.com to Kiva.org!

Since vegetable juice goes quickly into the blood stream, it goes quickly into the liver as well. The liver is your body’s filter and it works overtime to tackle the bad foods we eat on a regular basis. It’s the metabolic regulator. When our liver becomes overwhelmed with bad foods, it slows down. Juicing gives your digestive system a rest, including the stomach, intestines, pancreas, gallbladder and liver. Once the organs are resting, they can build their energy stores to tackle the harder jobs such as elimination, recovery and healing.

At a cellular level, your body starts to repair itself and detoxify. If you continue a healthy juicing plan you’ll experience new energy, a clearer complexion, and clarity of mind and body.

Green drinks are easy to digest, alkalize the body properly and are an exceptional source of chlorophyll. Remember that concept from earth science in middle school? Chlorophyll is what allows plants to absorb light and turn that energy into oxygen by combining water and carbon dioxide. It also enhances the body’s ability to produce hemoglobin, which once again, aids the liver and speeds up the process.

A word from the Author, Nancy Desjardins;  “Officially, I’m a Registered Nutritional Consulting Practitioner. Unofficially, I’m known as the Health Lady (HealthLady.com) on a Mission. As the name of my website implies, my passion is health. Because I am so passionate about health, I make it my business to share with you all the information and wisdom gathered over the years, from personal experience and from others who share my passion. Health to me is more than a weekend at the spa ‚ it’s a life-long journey of continuous learning.”

I know Nancy personally and she is truly an expert in her field and brings more than just her extensive knowledge to her clients, she brings her passion and personal touch to every client while helping them to live healthier lives.
